1898 Alaska Gold Rush Sourdough Reunion 6th Annual Photo -Rare
This is an original photo of the sourdoughs who went to Alaska during the 1898 gold rush. This is their sixth annual reunion in 1937. The photo does have a crack in the center. This is a very rare photograph there are not many in existence as there were very few sourdoughs.this particular photograph originates from the Willis family of Claremont California who ran a supply and pharmacy store in Cleary Alaska from the late 1800s until Cleary burned down in the fire of 1907. Willis ran his pharmacy with a fellow by the last name of Welch they were also friends with the Griffiths who are a relatively famous pioneer family who had settle in the Anchorage area at that time. From time to time and you will find Willis and Welch tokens for sale on the Internet. These are very rare tokens. We have many more artifacts from this expedition.
