Which old notes do we buy?
We buy old US paper money and, in some cases, foreign notes. That includes the large-format notes printed before 1928, silver certificates and gold certificates. One note or a whole album, the process is the same, and there’s no extra charge for looking at additional items.
What makes one old note worth more than another?
Old currency is a collectible. What it’s worth comes from rarity, condition and current market demand, so two notes that look alike at a glance can be far apart once we look closely.
- Condition. Folds, creases, tears, stains, pinholes, writing and trimmed edges all count. A crisp note and a worn one of the same kind are not the same note.
- What the note is. We look at the type of note, its series and its markings to judge how scarce it is.
- Left as found. Don’t clean, flatten, iron or tape a note. As with coins, cleaning or repair shows, and it can’t be undone.
- Holders. If a note is in a sleeve, album page or graded holder, leave it there and bring it that way.
Want a rough idea before you call? Search eBay for the same note in similar condition and filter to sold listings only. Asking prices on active listings are not what notes actually sell for.
How does an appointment work?
Call (541) 482-3715 to book. The Ashland shop at 1632 Ashland St. has posted hours Tuesday through Friday, 10 to 5, but it works by appointment and is usually booked, so walk-ins can’t be guaranteed. The Grants Pass shop works by appointment, typically on Mondays. Bring the notes as they are, plus any inventory list or purchase receipts you have. Looking costs you nothing, and you’re free to say no.
Selling from Medford, Grants Pass or Roseburg
We don’t have a Medford shop. Medford sellers come to Ashland, about 14 miles away. In Josephine County, call Grants Pass at (541) 955-2985. From Roseburg, the Grants Pass shop is about 67 miles. If you’re farther out, or the drive doesn’t make sense for a few notes, call (541) 482-3715 first. We’ll talk through what you have, and if mailing them makes sense we can send you a shipping label.
