Selling in Medford: how a visit to our Ashland shop works

J. Austin has no shop in Medford. Medford sellers come to our Ashland shop at 1632 Ashland St., about 14 miles away by I-5. The shop’s posted hours are Tuesday through Friday, 10 am to 5 pm, and every visit is by appointment. We are usually booked and can’t promise time to anyone who walks in, so call (541) 482-3715 before you leave Medford.

Why choose an appointment over a walk-in counter?

Booking ahead changes how the visit goes:

• The time is set aside for you. You won’t make the 14-mile drive only to find the shop booked.
• It’s private. We go through your pieces at a private appointment, which matters when they are family jewelry or a collection you would rather keep to yourself.
• You see the testing and the arithmetic. For gold, we weigh each piece on a calibrated jeweler’s scale and test the karat in front of you. Metal is priced from live spot at the moment of your appointment, and you see the arithmetic before you decide. Nothing leaves the counter, and there’s no obligation to sell.
• You decide in your own time. There’s no fee for the evaluation. You can accept the offer, decline it, or sleep on it.

What to bring

• Everything you’re unsure about. Broken chains, single earrings, old class rings, a jar of coins. There’s no minimum and no charge to look at extra items, and bringing it all at once saves a second trip from Medford.
• Leave things as they are. Don’t clean coins, polish jewelry, cut up chains, or pry stones out of their settings, and there’s no need to polish tarnished silver. A cleaned coin is no longer collectible.
• Any paperwork you have. Receipts, appraisals, diamond grading reports, and a watch’s box, papers and service records all help. None of it is required.
• Photo ID. Oregon requires it for precious-metals transactions.
